I believe that staying up to date and involved within our psychological scientific community is an important part of both keeping our skills as professionals sharp and also as professional development. Whilst I am busy working both for a large organisation and also doing some work within my local community critical evaluation of current scientific literature is an exercise I make time for at least twice yearly. The most recent evaluation that I took part in was with a partnership lead out of Auburn University in Alabama in the USA by Dr. Andrews that examined the use of animal-assisted therapy to support and increase morale for night shift workers. The full research article of which can be found here. The reason I chose to be involved in this piece is our organisation has a large number of workers that work the night shift or on rotational rosters, also we have implemented animal-assisted therapies in other areas of the business with mixed results.
