Who has the greatest power? Are they wielding that power responsibly? When you become a leader in a space, how do you ensure you are not oppressing groups or create a space that is unsafe? Do your colleagues and co-workers genuinely get along with you, or are they simply committing acts of adhesion so that they can survive in the workplace? Think about a famous person in your creative field. If you had the opportunity to work with them, wouldn’t it be fair to say that you would feel intimidated by their work and likely adhere to their methods of working, rightly or wrongly? Does your current definition of cultural responsilibity make room for this? What is your cultural responsibility and what does it mean to act ethically in relation to individual and community well-being? Consider other artists working in your field who you feel may have emulated positive or negative styles of leaderhsip.
In my opinion the person with the greatest power is unfortunately the person with the largest wealth. Today, that would be Elon Musk. I have this position as a large amount of wealth allows for a large amount of influence over people, politics and social media. I do not believe they are using that power responsibly. He has used his power to purchase social media and pursue less efficient forms of transportation that happen to use his own products. In the case of purchasing Twitter, this has given him power to control a modern form of communication. When I am in a position of power or leading a group, I try my best to make sure that everyone is comfortable and free to express any ideas or thoughts. However, I’ll admit that I can be quite overbearing with my own answers to those questions at time, especially when I believe that I am more knowledgeable on a subject. This is an area that I wish to improve upon myself as it means that not everyone can put their best foot forward. My workplace experience is next to zero and as such I can’t comment on that. However, I would not be surprised if colleagues in other situations do try to adhere to fit in with the environment. It should be noted that this has generally been my own approach to entering into situations and I am extrapolating from that. I would believe that I would most likely adhere to the approach that a famous person uses in their practice if I met them. I would do this because I would believe that it since it worked for them, it should work for me. I can see how this would cause issues when extrapolated out to more problematic areas and topics.
