‘What we hold most dear’

‘What we hold most dear’ explores my individual response to loss, validity and preservation. Personal choice to keep and destroy, and self determination of what is valuable perpetuates a sense of freedom. It suggests alternative views about whether resilient materials are more valuable and what is the ultimate way to preserve items and the lessons we learn throughout life.

‘I love beauty and conversations but mostly, beautiful conversations’

The art of conversing can be lost on older generations if their hearing dissipates. This work extends the natural reaction of putting a hand to your ear to signal to another they cannot be heard clearly. A fashionable hearing aid, reminiscent of a time when conversing was mostly done face to face by a generation now losing their agency, executed with a light sense of humour and acceptance of the inevitable.

‘Shaping Family’

It’s near impossible to outrun our pasts. The rusted key in this work references a life once discarded in another land, but when rediscovered, unlocks familial connections and promotes transparent conversations necessary to open hearts.
