GCs and CCPs

Being a large and diverse high school I believe that General Capabilities were covered extensively while the Cross Curriculum priorities were covered in specific subjects like HPE (Health and Physical Education). In HPE I remember a unit of our learning in junior being about Aboriginal games. Although we were learning traditional games we also learnt and focused on the history and culture of the Aboriginal people. I believe that in the 21st century of learning more schools and teachers are trying to incorporate the GCs and CCPs into their teaching methods. In my time at high school my teachers were effective in incorporating the GC’s during my learning by asking open-ended questions which encouraged debate, allowed me to explore multiple perspectives all of which had helped me to encourage my critical thinking. To cover CCP’s I believe that teachers need to embed the themes of Indigenous Cultures more deeply throughout subjects rather than as standalone lessons or projects. The link between GCs and CCPs and 21st century learning I believe is about providing learners with the skills that are necessary to maneuver through a connected, diverse, unpredictable world. they help by focusing on skills like critical thinking, collaboration communication and global awareness which go past academic knowledge and are vital to achieve success in the contemporary society.
