Mumma
Measurements: 420mm x 297mm
Drawn 2025
‘Mumma’ was created using charcoal erasure on paper. This is a resolved work from week one. It investigates tone, and how it is used to show form in a drawn object.
Both ‘Nestled’ and ‘Mumma’ are pictures created from photos taken by myself at homebirths, which I attended as a midwife. Each piece was created to be intricately detailed, emotive and beautiful. My intention in creating these works was to showcase the beauty of childbirth, motherhood, the love and passion I have as of the Child Health Nurse and Midwife for the families I care for. In addition to this, the profound connection between the mother and her child.

Connection
Size: 420mm x 297mm
Drawn 2025
This work is charcoal on artist paper. It is a drawn from a photograph I took of my sister-in-law breastfeeding her first born. I love how soft this image is, to me it speaks of connection and love, of bonding through breastfeeding. I love how the baby’s little hand is resting on her mum’s chest, so safe and cherished.

‘I’m Sorry’
Size: 420mm x 297mm
Drawn 2025
This drawing is charcoal on toned grey artist paper. It represents my experience caring for an unwanted baby, born alive. He was born just as I came onto shift, too young for resuscitation but born with a will to live but no loving hands to hold him. I had to make the awful decision to not hold him until he passed due to my workload. Rather than leaving him in the corner to die by himself, I was able to find another midwife who was free to hold him until he was gone. However, I will forever feel the pain and sadness of not being able to be there to hold him and offer him some small comfort in his final moments.
Through this work I am hoping to tell a story about my sadness around not always being able to give my 100% to all my patients. This is due to having to make tough decisions and prioritising the care I provide. Through this work I am hoping to draw attention to the tough and at times thankless job nurses and midwives have. It’s also a big sorry to my patients, to the ones that I wanted to help but couldn’t due to my workload.

Ayra
Size: 20 x 20cm
Drawn 2024
This is a charcoal on grey tone paper painting. It depicts my baby cow Ayra. Ayra was is speckle park calf we adopted from a local rescue centre. She is one of the cast offs from a diary, weaned from her mum at a few days all. So we adopted her and bottle fed her. Needless to say I fell in love with her. She has since grown up, over a year old now (end of 2025) and moved out with the herd (by her own choice!). She still comes over for a carrot, cuddle and lick when she can.

Cuddles!
Drawn 2024
This is a white chalk on black paper. It shows a baby koala in the safely of the arms of her mum.

Farmer Next Door
Size: A3
Drawn 2025
This is a drawing of the farmer next door. We had stopped to talk to him, the afternoon sun was shining on his face. I loved the shadows that were getting cast so I asked him for a photo, which he bashfully agreed. Then gave him and his partner the drawing as a gift few weeks later. I loved his cheeky half smile, feel you can see the kindness in his face in this image.
