In this lesson, we learnt masking techniques to make abstract work. Exercise 1 (third picture) was learning to block areas of work for a more geometric abstraction or illustrative approach. Exercise 2 (second picture) is something similar, however, you first paint the main figures, then the middle ground imagery, and lastly the background, rather than how we normally think of pictorial space and composition. The artworks sort of failed, and as you can see, the paper is torn. When I took off the tape gently, it still ripped. Next time, I will use canvas instead of painting paper. I would like to continue experimenting with this technique and do it better.
