Professional Engagement

Professional Engagement, as stated by the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL, 2017), means that teachers have a requirement to maintain professionalism when interacting with students, parents/ carers, the community and any other members of a educational institute (AITSL, 2017).

As a teacher, I plan to effectively provide communications and work collaboratively with my networks to ensure my students are receiving any and all support they need to succeed in my classes. By maintaining a professional relationship between parents/ carers and students I will need to follow all codes of conduct, child protection policies and ensure I am setting expectations to maintain that relationship.

Sending communications on various platforms is important to update students about upcoming assessments or homework and for allowing parents/ carers to have information on the timeline of the year. providing communications to parents/ carers is important because parents can be provided with information about how their child is doing and if there is anyway they can be supported (New South Wales Government, n.d.).

To ensure I am maintaining the sub-strand of professional learning, I need to participate with professional developments to improve my practice (AITSL, 2017). I need to implement any and all professional developments into my practice to improve my students’ learning and their overall schooling experience.
