During my Japan trip, I heard previously to keep looking at the manhole covers as they had many different unique designs but the vast numbers of them were so fascinating to me! There were many unique versions from more area specific, to very artistic inspired one and to historical relevancy of the location and Japan in general. I was going half mad looking at the ground searching for new plates and got others to send in any unique ones they find from their own independent travels. The book is a long (825cm) concertina with 66 manhole covers that I displayed in a spiral pattern which made it easier to look at the many different designs on the pages, I edited each image to have a clear background and lined them out to be printed out on A4 then cut and arranged to be scanned onto better quality paper and once again cut into long strips that make up the pages.
