‘Grass Jellyfish’

‘Grass Jellyfish’ | 20 cm diameter x 120 cm long | grass, fishing wire |
We achieve efficient use of our brain by associating things using patterns and norms. When we imagine our environment the grass is green, skies are blue, clouds are fluffy and white.
Throughout life we make snap judgements because of this that can lead us astray.
This piece challenges those norms by depicting a jellyfish created entirely from various species of grass harvested on site suspended in a rural environment.

‘Family Portrait’

‘Family Portrait’ | wax, alginate, found object dolls house | 74 cm high x 83 cm wide
We each define “family” differently. Who, or what, do we consider to be our family? What is the hierarchy of our family?
Each family member created a hand gesture to represent themselves and proposed their own arrangement for the cast hands within the house – how they perceive the family.
‘Family Portrait’ explores our fundamental identity through our individual sense of self, our identity within the family unit and the perceived family hierarchy.

‘Angler’

‘Angler’ | pine needles, waxed polyester thread, dog harness, Velcro, various foam pieces, felt, reused fabric, tape, found object desk lamp | 25 cm high, 22 cm wide and 85 cm long |
We achieve efficient use of our brain by associating things using patterns and norms. When we imagine our environment, the grass is green, skies are blue, the ocean is blue green with white capped waves, clouds are fluffy and white.
‘Angler’ challenges those norms by depicting a deep-sea fish species normally confined to the darkness interacting within a light forest environment in the form of a dog costume.
