Professional engagement

In relation to the professional engagement domain of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. I believe that as a beginning teacher it is vital to engage in professional learning and engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers, and the wider community. It is important to reflect on professional needs and engage in professional learning to improve practice, engage with colleagues and applying professional knowledge to support and improve student learning. By engaging in professional learning, it helps to improve teacher knowledge as well as their skills and practice. It supports teachers in helping them learn new ways so their students can thrive in their classroom (Department of Education VIC, n.d). As a beginning teacher it is fundamental to understand and meet professional ethics and responsibilities by following appropriate legislations, and policies. I will also engage professionally with parents/carers as well as engage in professional teaching networks whilst always maintaining professional. As a teacher I believe you can always learn new skills and techniques, so it is vital to participate in professional learnings whilst also pursuing your teacher career.
