Ava Rose Jaaniste is an Australian contemporary painter, working in acrylic paints. She focuses her time and skill into painting portraits in a way of representational abstraction, committed to represent photo references differently than their original form. She does this through the exploration of colour and negative space, and the visual realities such combinations of the two can create.

In the early stages of her art-making journey, Ava Rose became familiar with not always ‘getting it right’. She decided to embrace the unpredictability and capriciousness of painting and now translates her references into patchy, bold, colourfully textured artworks. As evident in her artworks, Ava Rose takes great influence from and greatly admires the work of Ben Quilty and Nicholas Harding.

Ava Rose Jaaniste, daughter of Australian composer and sonic artist Luke Jaaniste, is a Brisbane-born artist who likes to create in the backyard, now residing in Toowoomba. She has completed a Certificate III in Visual Arts and is currently studying a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing at the University of Southern Queensland, majoring in Visual Arts.

In 2023, Ava Rose sold her first artwork to the public, launching her art journey into new realms. She is always open to commission work and exhibitions.
