Bethany Grace is a visual artist whose body of work encapsulates her lived experiences, knowledge of literary theories, admiration of nature, and aspiration for story-telling. Grace enjoys working with many different media and experiments with presentation and installation. Often, she uses found objects as ‘canvases’ to expand on her concepts. As her works are a representation of her lived experience, utilising a traditional Japanese fan to paint her Australian backyard is the perfect way to express her third-culture kid identity, as an Australian being born in Japan. Grace is a current student at the University of Southern Queensland, studying a bachelor of Visual Arts. She has had further training and experience at workshops from Art Plus, Bundaberg, and the McGregor Art School, expanding on her skill base from established and practicing artists across Queensland, Australia. In 2020, Grace was awarded the Lilliene Grace Grant by members of Westside Christian College. The grant was awarded to contribute to and grow Grace’s Visual Art career. The Head of Secondary at Westside Christian College commissioned Grace to create a painting titled “For Mr Schmidt”, as a welcoming present to the new principal of the school. Her body of works, “Harmonious Juxtaposition” (2021), and “Contrarieties” (2021), were exhibited at the Emerging Artists event, Westside Christian College in 2021.
