Queensland artist Brenda Lui lives and works in Meeanjin (Brisbane) on Turrbal country; this is where she is creative and feels a wonderful connection to the land and waters surrounding her. Brenda is an established milliner, fashion designer and emerging visual artist who embraces a feminine aesthetic combining colour, texture and movement. These facets unite to evoke joyous emotions tinged with melancholy when viewing her work. Brenda completed her Bachelor of Creative Arts, Community and Wellbeing, majoring in Visual Art and minors in Teaching, Psychology and Counselling at the University of Southern Queensland in March of 2025 and continues to develop her artistic style through her studio practice across a mix of mediums. Experimenting with expressive styles across various mediums, in particular textiles, incorporating millinery and sewing techniques, Brenda is often inspired by natural and psychological elements.

Growing up, Brenda expressed herself artistically through sewing, designing, art-making and dancing. Brenda completed an Advanced Diploma of Fashion in 2000, which flowed into an extensive fashion career; then, in 2009, she began studying millinery under master milliner Waltraud Reiner. Merging passions, Brenda established herself as a highly sought-after, exhibited and award-winning designer creating millinery and fashion pieces for racing fashion enthusiasts and bridal clients.

As the carer of a neuro-diverse child, Brenda values the positive impacts of creative arts on wellbeing and hopes to share these practices with others. Brenda is now working in the Arts in Health field as a support officer and hopes to continue developing her arts practice to incorporate creative methods to help benefit the wellbeing of members in her community.
