Activity: ‘Cultural Safety Update’
Back in week 1, I composed the below personal definition of cultural safety:
My Understanding of cultural safety is that it offers an incredibly important space for people of diverse cultures to feel valued, respected, heard and celebrated. This safety includes a non-judgemental approach and welcomes knowledge sharing while embracing and celebrating pride in culture and identity.
On reflection, I feel this definition offers a well-rounded, respectful understanding of cultural safety but could include more elements regarding the importance of language and acknowledgement to be more inclusive. As an artist, I feel certain responsibilities to minority groups by offering support through solidarity and respectful actions such as: performing acknowledgment of country, respectful use of language, and stating pronoun preferences. This knowledge has helped me to grow a greater awareness of sensitive matters and use appropriate and respectful language to support change for greater acceptance of minority groups throughout broader society.
Cultural Safety Update:

This safety includes a non-judgemental approach and welcomes knowledge sharing while embracing and celebrating pride in culture and identity. Cultural safety can be bestowed by using pronouns, communicating with respectful and inclusive language, performing acknowledgment of country and providing support to minority groups through respectful actions and solidarity.
