My name is Brooklyn Ah-wong, and I am a proud South Sea Islander, Kuku-Yalanji and Gunggandji woman.
I was born in Mackay in 2003 and am currently studying for a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Southern Queensland. I have pursued the study of art for most of my life. As an artist, I am inspired by culture, spirituality, mythology, and the human psyche.
For me, the arts are the gateway to exploring different interpretations of philosophy. I have participated in the Paxton Portrait Award and the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art. Creating a mural for Holy Spirit College has been my favourite project. I have also been commissioned for individual art pieces, specialising in symbolistic portraits over the last two years.
I work primarily in painting and digital artworks, working predominantly from home. Through the influences of Fantasy Art and the Symbolism era, I have fallen in love with powerful portraiture and ethereal art pieces. Since 2016 I have undertaken visual art classes and experimented with many different disciplines. Learning from various experienced artists, I can explore different art styles and experiments. Through practical experience, my knowledge grows and aids my practice.
