My students come from a remote rural school in Far North Queensland which has been around for 119 years, it is an Aboriginal Community and the students have varied needs. This diversity comes from the student’s uniqueness and includes backgrounds, personality, life experiences, culture, language, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, and it is these differences which shape their world view, perspectives, and approach (Australian Curriculum, n.d.). It is my responsibility to ensure that all my students are given opportunities to shine, to learn new things, to encourage success and to have a positive teacher-student relationship which fosters success and a willingness to learn . As a teacher it is my job to learn about and support my students in a way which allows them to fail and succeed, to give them the skills to learn independently and to push their creativity, to be a positive role model, to guide, motivate and most importantly to be dedicated to my profession to enable me to provide the best teaching and learning I can.

The content I teach will be relevant, have real-world connections and be tailored to the students I teach. In addition to having a deep understanding of the content, I will select the most effective teaching strategies to ensure student understanding. This will ensure alignment with the current curriculum, assessment, and reporting. This is vital for effective understanding of the student’s level of understanding and being able to forward plan to address any gaps or areas of need that are identified.

In addition to all of this, I will ensure that my teaching is culturally sensitive and take every opportunity to promote a positive understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. I will create a classroom where diversity is celebrated, learning is culturally respectful, and students are taught in a way they understand and that their needs are met in a timely and individualized manner.
