Professional knowledge is the fundamental aspect of effective teaching, encompassing a thorough understanding of both students and subject content. Success within this domain requires a holistic comprehension of students, understanding their physical, social emotional and intellectual needs. This also includes recognition of any cultural, linguistic, religious and social-economic backgrounds that students may bring to the classroom (Moloney & Saltmarsh, 2016). I am committed to achieving success through the ongoing use of data collection and analysis to identify my student’s strengths, needs and interests to allow me to prepare responsive planning and teaching strategies to improve academic outcomes, student engagement and overall wellbeing.
I understand that a comprehensive knowledge of the Australian Curriculum (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], 2022) is essential, requiring a high level of implementation strategies such as real world examples and hands on activities, evidence based high-impact teaching that are tailored to the learning needs of my students. Using the Australian Curriculum (ACARA, 2022), general capabilities and cross curricular priorities, I intend on planning and executing engaging, well-structured and challenging teaching and learning strategies. This approach aims to foster the 21st Century skills outlined in the curriculum to position my students as active and informed members of our ever changing society. I am to cultivate meaningful teacher student relationships as this is the cornerstone to establishing inclusive classrooms and optimal learning experiences (Marzano, 2003).
