6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice.
Understand the relevant and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers.
6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice.
Seek and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers to improve teaching practices.
Throughout my placements at various schools I have had the opportunity to engage with professional teachers within lessons, Professional development Days, staff meeting and one-on-one discussions. A critical part of teaching practice to engage in Professional learning with the intent to improve overall teaching practice. (6.2,6.3).
During my final placement, I was required to engage with two supervising teachers to seek feedback on my planning and teaching (6.3). Using feedback is critical to improving knowledge, as we as teacher understand the benefits of providing feedback to students, it is no different with our own learning. Hattie & Timperley (2007) suggest that feedback is the most powerful tool that can be used within the learning, improving achievement.
Throughout my placement I utilised the knowledge of not only my supervising teacher, but others within the school to help build on my knowledge relating to many aspects of teaching, from planning and implementing differentiated lessons, to coaching aspects of various sports.
As a result of my ongoing Professional development within the placement, I was able to demonstrate to both of my supervising teachers that I had the ability to seek feedback and take action to improve my planning and teaching, and overall development. Artefact “Feedback Placement”, highlights this with a positive a rewarding outcome from my supervising teachers.
