ARTIST STATEMENT

As a primarily photography and drawing based artist, I have utilised skills and methods learnt in ceramics and sculpture to explore and express self-identity in an immersive manner, studying themes in mental health. I am highly interested in pursuing ideas surrounding supressed anxiety and high-functioning depression disorders as it relates to myself and those around me.

Linking this overarching theme to my past and future works highlights a personal struggle to express identity. In future, I aim to explore how light is central to the immersive experience and embodiment of installation works. This exploration is demonstrated in Space Between, a hybrid ceramic and sculptural piece drawn from childhood joy of reading that has sparked passion and created a space of refuge to cling to during difficult times.

Approaching my practice with audience interaction in mind, I aim to provide awareness and an open conversation around mental health across all demographics, encouraging internal exploration of the self. My wider bodies of work explore these themes in relation to my personal context of rural Australian upbringing and community.
