Trading the tools for the classroom
A Little About Me
I have worked in the building industry for 33 years with a carpentry trade background. During this time, I gained valuable experience in various construction and building industry roles, including residential construction, business project management, site supervision and property development. I started my journey as a commercial cladder in 1990 and have since acquired my builder’s and supervisor’s licences and an advanced diploma in project management. Before transitioning into education, I managed significant commercial projects, created a successful online resource platform for teachers and launched a house-flipping business to produce a renovation show.
Motivated by a desire for a less physically demanding role and inspired by my wife, a fellow teacher, I embarked on the Trade to Teach program to bring my industry experience into the classroom. As a future teacher in the design tech field, I aim to impact students’ lives positively by relating real-life experience to ITD subjects like design, industrial tech, 3D printing, AR, VR, Mechatronics and engineering.
The Trade to Teach program has been a challenging yet rewarding journey, supported by the incredible staff at Trade to Teach and USQ. I’m passionate about making a difference in the classroom, with colleagues, the school and the community.
