Hi, wasn’t sure if it was relevant, but this was two reflective exercises, early on, when I was initially hoping to complete a weather/nature based topic for the sculpture, using the fluff material and heshin / bandage material.

I completed both poems, as a sort of brainstorming exercise of what concepts, ideas and qualities in the sun / light and moon / dark

I think this idea could potentially be shelved for further expansion in another, larger sculpture soon down the track, this year.

Hope it’s okay to share.

The moon is wisdom

The moon is peace

She whispers, whispers, in my dreams.

The moon is a Cheshire smile

A dinner plate

I cannot dare exacerbate her mystery

How she feeds sincerity

In showing up, not only momentarily

In the darkest of nights

She is always a shining light, in a canvas of stars.

Dissipating my fears, sewing lightning rods in our hearts.

The sun is a boy, I think

Bright, funny, shiny

He wears shades, is cool

He is in love with the moon

He helps make the grass green, with his friend the Cloud.

Notes: I think this concept of the moon as ‘woman’ or to do with the feminine, and sun as related to traditionally more masculine concepts would be interesting to explore and deconstruct, and perhaps challenge.

Especially, following on from printmaking focus on LGBTQIASB+ and Queer allyship, I think sometimes it is importing to look back on People’s previous and continued struggles, reflecting on where we have come from, what we need to learn, in order to move forward. Challenging this dichotomy of only male / female, light. / dark, protection. / submission would be interesting to explore and represent, and deconstruct in a wearable sculpture.
