I find printmaking to be quite a freeing method of art, with much room and encouragement for trying different techniques, tools and equipment than what I’m used to. Printmaking encourages trial and error, and a lot of practicality and productivity within play.
I find it is also with its intracies in how colour plays an important facet within designs, and their statements, messages and communications with the viewer. Printmaking encourages exploration of my art’s relationships and influence by colours, as well as exploration of my use of colours.
Black I prefer for some statement prints. However, I also quite like the use of red, as it changes things up, from primarily using black. I find red is effective for nature-related prints, and personally prefer it as opposed to black for focussing on prints on designs such as flowers. Black I find a little too dark or heavy for these lighter-themed works, where I want to have a more colourful, uplifting vibe emanating from the use of brighter colour/s.
Block paints I definitely find to be the best choice of paint to work with. There are many benefits, including effectiveness of paint, when applying from lino to paper, and ease of cleaning up.
I personally have only been using a wooden spoon and find this works well to apply pressure. I can see the benefits of using a baron. A lot more space I think could be covered with a baron. Speedball baron seems to be what a lot of professional printmakers, who sell their work, recommend.
