Jessica Ling | Biography
My name is Jessica Ling and I am a multidisciplinary artist currently residing and working in Brisbane, Australia.
Ever since I was a small child, I have loved art in all its forms. I am an avid writer, having kept journals now for over 10 years. I also work in a variety of fine art mediums – pen, charcoal, watercolours, acrylics, oils, printmaking, and small amounts of video, photography and sculpture.
My art is inspired by an interest in abstraction, expressionism and at times also surrealism. My work often explores the deconstruction of forms into abstract lines and shapes – creating something new and unrecognisable from something familiar.
In 2015, I completed a semester of studies in Multidisciplinary Art at Shenkar University in Tel Aviv, Israel. The course was entirely instructed in Hebrew, which presented its challenges! Nevertheless having the opportunity to study art in the dynamic melting pot that is Israel influenced the development of my artistic style and broadened my perspective.
I believe that you never stop learning and developing as an artist. I aspire to approach my work always with a beginner mind, and never to feel bound to a particular style, medium or subject for too long.
