Sculpture 2024

‘Amalgamation of Awkward’ is a soft sculpture, Frankenstein-ish creature. I incorporated the body of a sea otter, tail of a gold fish, and the body of a nudibranch into an awkward little creature.

White felt, Tulle, embroidery thread and stuffing – stained with alcohol markers.

‘Vela Obscura’ is a wearable sculpture that aims to obscure the wearer’s form. Modelled after the aesthetics of a dreamcatcher, the piece is designed to wrap around the body, and then deflect any malicious or negative things that try to pass through it. It is also intended to protect the wearer from social anxiety and the fear of being seen, by drawing attention away from the person and onto the sculpture. The piece uses feathers gathered by my grandparents over the years.

Wire frame, Macrame cord, Wooden beads and assortment of Australian native feathers.

‘Talismans’ is a series of five pocket-size miniature sculptures depicting the animals that are involved in my life. The figures were sculpted out of Apoxy Sculpt to represent my two birds, Fenn and Ranu, my guinea pig; Sirius, my cat; Amethus, and my brother’s Border Collie; Milo. The sculptures are covered in strands of embroidery thread that enable a more realistic depiction of the animals and their colours and markings. I made miniature plinths to go alongside the animals, and place them upon the plinths in front of a strobe light. The piece is a reflection on the large impact that small animals have on my life, and the silhouette is inspired by the Glasshouse mountains.

Apoxy Sculpt, embroidery thread, foam, with wooden plinths.
