Haru no Kaze, etching, ink and acrylic on paper, 2022

Joel Oborn is a multidisciplinary visual and technical artist working in both traditional and new media spaces. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Design and Interactive Technologies at the University of Southern Queensland.

He is interested in working with immersive technologies and the capacity to provide experiential creative works through the fusion of art and technology. He also has a passion for drawing and graphic work, and much of his practice is inspired by comics, manga, commercial art and advertising. Joel likes to mix “low-brow” and “high-brow” artforms in order to question the way we see everyday designs and what we classify as “art”. Mixing these interests with new digital technologies has led to an interest in games and interactive experiences as art.

Joel cites many of his artistic inspirations as Kim Jung-Gi, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Mark Rothko, Salvador Dali and Jackson Pollock among others.
