Ceramic Resolves

Pinch Pot – Work 1

This ceramic piece was created off a series of exploration on hand-building clay, specifically the pinch pot method.

For Mushroom Soup, I worked with air-dry clay rather than kiln-fired clay, making the most of the materials available to me. Using the pinch-pot method—shaping the form slowly by hand, building the walls through repeated pinching and turning—I created the base bowl and then continued shaping from that foundation. This hands-on process naturally led me toward forming small mushrooms and blending them seamlessly into the structure, giving the piece a whimsical, organic character.

Once the clay dried, I finished the work with acrylics in earthy wood and orange tones to reinforce its natural focus. Although air-dry clay brought its own challenges, the final piece reflects my ongoing connection to nature and my interest in transforming simple hand-formed vessels into imaginative, textural objects.

Hand Building Ritual Object: Work-2

This ceramic piece was created off a series of exploration on hand-building clay

Mushroom Ritual was created using the pinch-pot method once again, shaped entirely from air-dry clay for a more efficient and accessible making process. Staying connected to the natural themes that consistently inspire my practice, I returned to the familiar form of mushrooms—motifs that feel close to my heart and continue to evolve across my work.

For this piece, I selected vibrant reds paired with clean whites to move away from the earthy, forest-based palette of earlier works. The shift in colour embraces a more playful, uplifting interpretation of the mushroom form, giving the piece a charming, almost storybook quality. Designed as an incense burner, the work allows smoke to rise through the openings at the top and cascade gently over the bowl and base, creating a calm, ritual-like atmosphere.
