I strongly believe a commitment to continuous learning is the essence of being a successful teacher. Allen and White (2018) support this by stressing the need for continuous critical reflection and adaptability to remain effective in teaching practice. I believe engaging in conversations with colleagues and actively participating in professional development opportunities, leads to a culture of shared expertise thereby enhancing the collective knowledge within the teaching team and contributing to a professional community that collectively works towards the continuous improvement of teaching and learning. I believe teachers should model a mindset that embraces growth and development, so their students understand the importance of lifelong learning. I believe lifelong learners are more adaptable, resilient and better equipped to navigate challenges. The importance of this is outlined by Goal 2 in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019) which states ‘all young Australian’s become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners and active and informed members of the community.
I acknowledge and understand the importance of involving parents/caregivers in the educative process, ensuring open communication and collaboration between school and home with the shared goal of maximising the learning outcomes for my students as outlined by the Parent and Community Engagement framework (Queensland Government, N.D.).
