This painting explores the concept of escapism through internet humour and memes. I felt that my generation coped with the hardships of the world by immersing themselves in internet culture, often recording videos joking about events happening in the world.

ANOTHER HER is an oil painting over an acrylic underpainting that extends on the ideas of escapism from Negative Spaces, with a focus on storytelling and fantasy. The front figure is an original character from a story I created, one that I would often immerse myself in.

The idea for this painting came about when I was jokingly suggesting combining Alien and Fergie to a coworker. I had been watching behind the scenes footage of the concept of Alien and was intrigued by the creator’s vision of the Xenomorph. This painting explores the sexual nature of the Xenomorph and Fergie as a music artist. I wondered what I could create by combining a figure meant to bring sexual discomfort to men, and another who appeals to men.
