Marisa Ballinger is multidisciplinary artist based on Giabal Jarowair lands in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Strongly influenced by her Ngiyampaa heritage, Marisa delves into the intricate complexities of self-identity, embracing the notion that identity is not fixed but rather a dynamic and ever-evolving journey. Drawing upon memory, experience and the nuance of everyday life, Marisa expresses deeply intertwined personal, cultural, and historical narratives in her works that capture the intrinsic relationship between maker, medium, and creative process. In a practice characterised by an appreciation of form, line, and meticulous process, her work is explorative and diverse, incorporating various media, including fibre, textile, clay, timber, metal and found materials. Central to her work is her weaving, which initially emerged as a practice in wellbeing and subsequently became a means of expressing her place in the world.

Currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Southern Queensland, Marisa blends contemporary and traditional techniques in works that investigate line, form, and space. The dynamics within everyday experiences are expressed both literally and metaphorically through the material choices and personal stories embedded in her work.
