Module 4 – Self Directed

In my self directed work, the video experiment is resolved into a single face, with interchanges the transparent faces to indicate which internal voice is addressing the viewer. The video itself is projected onto a mask, thereby “activating” the featureless object, which itself is letterbox framed by the phrase “Sit And Be Judged” (a tie-in with the printmaking studio). This work resolves the developing theme of directing (and manipulating) the audience into certain actions (peepholes directing them to look inside, signs directing them to action, posters directing them to scrutinise), instructing them to sit view the projection. As there is only a single seat, it has the added quality of the viewer having other audience members gather around them, potentially adding a sense of claustrophobia.
