The Magician is rich with symbolism, both independantly and drawing from the 4 minor arcana suits. The figure points a wand toward the sky with one hand, while gesturing to the ground with the other, much like the addage “as above, so below”. This can be interpretted as the material world reflecting the spiritual, microcosms reflecting macrocosms, the internal reflecting the external and so on. He could be considered as the anchor between the two, balancing the dicotomy and drawing them together to create and influence reality. His table bares the tools of the minor arcana suits. It shows the four elements (earth, water, air and fire) being tied to the Magician’s practice. Symbols of eternity are also present, with the infinity symbol above his head, and the serpent belt around his waist alluding to oroborus. Being the first numbered card in the Major Arcana (after the prologue card 0 – The Fool), The Magician speaks to the unbridled potential for creation held within those prepared to put the required tools and techniques to work.
