Professional practice

The professional Practice domain encompasses the expectation that teachers plan and deliver curriculum content that is fit for purpose to achieve positive learning outcomes and creating a safe and supportive environment and providing support for students learning and development, with relevant assessment and beneficial and timely feedback to assist future learning.  This domain aligns with the High impact learning strategies, include 10 strategies that reliably increase learning and development when applied in the classroom, (Department of Education and Training, 2020) Example No.1 Setting Goals lessons have clear learning intentions and structured lessons with clear expectations, instructions, transitions, scaffolding, assessment and feedback. No 5 Collaborative Learning students are encouraged to engage and share information, while working in partnership in pairs or groups. No 10 Differentiated teaching this strategy designed to increase performance with all students and assist those who require additional support.  These three strategies are examples within the HIT that demonstrates a safe learning environment, students know what will happen during the lesson, and have opportunities share knowledge and be valued for their opinion and feel supported to achieve learning goals. The HITs align with elements of Maslow’s Hierarchy where students feel safe free from outside threats and have a sense of belonging with in the classroom, thus boosting their self-esteem and reason to learn (Lutz, 2016). I will utilize the strategies within the HITs to promote and develop the students in my class.
