Professional practice

Professional practice requires teachers to successfully plan for and implement effective teaching and learning sequences while creating and maintaining a supportive and safe learning environment. It also requires teachers to assess, provide feedback and report on students learning. (Queensland College of Teachers, 2019) Maslow states that humans are motivated by goal accomplishment. Achieving goals allows them to meet their individual needs and wants. (Kurt, 2020) The hierarchy of Maslow displays those the students’ physiological needs, safety needs and love and belonging are three of the most important needs to be met. If these are not being met this may prevent students from learning and effect the teaching and learning being implemented. The creation of a safe and supportive learning environment builds the foundation for a flourishing classroom environment. This further supporting the students to move further ahead with their development.
Feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement, but this impact can be either positive or negative. (Hattie & Timperley, 2007) Hattie’s Visible Learning states that feedback types and levels were used as the conceptual framework for the investigation and for the questionnaire design. (Hattie & Timperley, 2007) Providing feedback to students allows them to investigate, problem solve and produce further questions to continue the learning being undertaken.
