Artists Statement

Pattie Murray is an Australian ceramicist who creates delicate and intricate tableware. She uses traditional techniques of throwing and hand-building in her practice. Her works are eye-catching and beautiful to hold and use, blending beauty, form, and functionality.

This series of works explores identity, through a juxtaposition of everyday materials from the artist’s studio. The inherent qualities of porcelain, cotton, paper, and wire have been hand formed into non-traditional works, that question our idea of function through form. 

Surfaces have been refined and kept to a minimum, whilst focusing in on each material’s textural quality and finish.
