Week 5 Allyship: Intersectionality

Legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw describes intersectionality in her YouTube video (2018) as having multiple identities that cover and influence one another. For example, women are seen as weak which puts them in a disadvantaged category due to their feminism.

Many people do not think on the same level. For example, they may come from Indigenous backgrounds, but their upbringing may differ. As a personal reflection on Allyship and Intersectionality, we all need to be more accepting of other people’s perspectives. At the same time, we need to keep our boundaries strong. Also, being a good ally is to support the needs of others and have respect for other differences we may have. We may have similar religions and races, but people do not think alike we are all unique individuals.
