Artefact 11

Artefact 11 – Since completing the Essential Skills for Management professional development course I have implemented my expectations when working with small groups as a teacher aide. This visual aide serves as a reminder to students and myself of the expectations and boundaries when working in my class. This gives me confidence to enforce my boundaries through redirection and reminders of the expectations and follow through with consequences when expectations are not followed. Following through with consequences is a practice that I am still trying to develop confidence in as I tend to give students multiple second chances to correct their behaviour.

Artefact 12 – I received verbal and written feedback from my mentor teacher with suggestions for improving my classroom and behaviour management. Suggested strategies included more verbal praise for students to align with the schools’ positive behaviour for learning approach, using an attention grabber which I implemented in subsequent lessons, and movement breaks which I endeavour to practice and use throughout my practice.

Artefact 13 – While completing my final placement in a year 4 classroom, my supervising teacher gave me this written feedback. I had informed the supervising teacher that my focus was improving behaviour and classroom management which is targeted in this feedback.
