Under the Professional engagement domain with rapidly changing circumstances, I embrace a growth mindset as I enter the teaching profession, understanding that professional engagement and development are crucial to improving and maintaining quality teaching for my students. Understanding the lifelong nature of learning, I endeavour to improve my teaching practice, growing my knowledge and skillset by identifying professional learning needs and seeking support to develop my practice further through a Professional Development Plan. Working as a teacher aide for the last three years has shown me the importance of collegial collaboration to improve my practice and apply it to improve student learning. I regularly seek feedback from mentor teachers during placements and in my daily role as a teacher aide to seek further strategies that I can implement to build my practice and confidence.
I acknowledge the responsibility to meet professional and ethical standards when engaging professionally with colleagues, families, and the wider community. I understand the importance of effective and sensitive communication with parents and carers to demonstrate integrity, respect, and care under the code of ethics (Queensland College of Teachers, n.d.). I intend to participate in school and the wider community opportunities, recognising the important link between school, home, and community contexts.
