Sculpture 1-3 Narrative and Design

Elysia Dragockaroo is a mysterious and illusive creature who lives in the shadows of lush tropical rainforests. She drinks and wallows in the crystal-clear waters of creeks surrounding our home in Far North Queensland. As her name suggests, she is blissfully divine, a truly gentle soul, especially with those she knows, respects and trusts. She is of an undetermined age, though we’ve recently spotted her with a small one in her pouch, so she’s still young enough to carry on the bloodlines of her tribe. Elysia feeds on exotic dragon fruits, the wild, lush-red kind that creep to the very top of the highest trees and offer their abundant jewels to hungry Dragockaroos. We can hear Elysia whirling above us on her nightly adventures to mysterious distant lands. The majestic skeletal framework of her wide wings provide support for the delicate wing membrane, as she soars across the starry night skies.

Elysia’s sharp talons and strong back legs scoop the carpeted undergrowth with ease while she looks for juicy berries and wild treats. Her curved beak snaps seeds with ease as she offers these to her young, who jiggles excitedly in his warm pouch. Elysia travels everywhere with her sacred talisman, gifted to her from the matriarch of the Dragockaroos, her esteemed and fearless mother, Belladona, the beautiful and brave. This item is imbued with magical powers to grant Elysia protection, psychic ability, good fortune and healing.
