Mo Kolman deeply inspired me through their concept of how humans try and fail to control the environment around them. However, instead of focusing on how nature always prevails, I decided to emphasise the lengths for which human beings go to for control and how that affects them. Essentially, I want to explore the changings of identity within a persons need to fit into the social environment around them, revealing that they never accept themselves. Both artworks have the underlining concept of thoughts being the power.
Unravelled represents how thoughts can change your appearance. All the different fabrics are the different personalities. This artwork is the shell of your armer one, the escape of your own cage. Furthermore the artwork resembles how much habits and identity a person has had to pull apart and will have to pull apart to simply start again.

Unravelled – 137cm x 36.6 x 31cm, chicken wire, a multitude of fabrics, metal (doorknob).
