For my collage piece, Ode to Midge, I painted Midge from Mattel’s Barbie range with a background inspired by Van Gogh’s Self Portrait, 1889.

This work is about mental health and the faces we wear to mask feelings of inadequacy. Barbie’s best friend Midge was discontinued after being deemed a poor role model for young girls.
