In Semester 1 I have been working in oils, using techniques such as Grisaille and Alla Prima painting in live figure painting, disrupted realism, and portraiture.
A major influence on my recent paintings has been the work of Australian artist Elisabeth Cummings. Cummings predominantly paints abstracted landscapes in vibrant colour harmonies, and I have been interested to apply this approach to my figure painting.
Nirvana (2024) is a part of a collective work which also includes ceramic plates and vessels
In Nirvana (2024) I have applied a similar palette and mark making techniques as Cummings might use to my figure painting, which unites the subject with the surrounding landscape.
Resonance 1 (2023-4)
Resonance 1 is an extension of the unity of Nirvana to the tangible world. Repetition of the colours and style of mark making of Nirvana onto ceramic forms such as this one suggests a spiritual awakening and the breaking down of separateness, into total integration.
