Artist Bio

Hi! My name is Susan Keen (she/her) and I am emerging Australian artist. I am a wife and mother to three children. From 1998, I worked as a sign writer and graphic designer, and since 2021 I have transitioned to working intuitively in fine art. I now have a purpose built studio in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, and am in my 2nd year studying a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Southern Queensland part-time.

My current work is predominantly in ceramics and painting. My themes are around the human condition and the quest for equilibrium, with influences of Abstract Expressionism, Fauvism and Japanese wabi-sabi.

I appreciate the meditative immersion of creating with clay, and the quiet place that painting takes me. I am inspired by nature and the connection I have to the natural environment.

Making art provides an opportunity to slow down and be present, and builds self-awareness. It helps me to contemplate life and learn about myself while I am absorbed in the making.

Alongside my artistic practice, I aim for optimal wellness through nutrition and fitness, meditation, and alternative healing. I also enjoy hiking and travel. I am looking forward to visiting Japan later this year as part of my artistic research and development.
