Cultural Safety (1)
[OK, we’re here: we all want to feel safe, comfortable, at peace, at rest, in touch and in tune with each other – the change* will flow out of that harmony, the words are just a defence until we’re sure we’ll do right by each other and can trust one another – of course, we need to give trust unconditionally, as a gift, but most people aren’t ready to embody that, so I will 😊!]

1. Take a look at the list of desirable traits in an ethical leader…
[See thoughts below.]
2. Do you view yourself as capable of leadership?…
What is a leader? What is the role of a leader? What is their function? Why is their function? Leading implies that something is going somewhere. And leading implies reliance on judgement. And judgement implies control. And control implies the enforcement (not necessarily forceful) of codified behaviours – laws.
Law/s have held together society to allow it to continue over time and attain a level of civilisation, of course. And judgement may be expressed more softly as influence – still, if married with power (the formula for which I would explain this way – money + government = power), influence takes on the stance of authority – and “as long as people have recourse to look to authority, they remain slaves, […] completely cut off from their potential (personal notes)”.
An effective leader is one who refuses to lead (Rollins, cited in Caleb E, 2018) – they take responsibility for their own self-reliance and hope to inspire others to do the same.
3, Knowing everything you do now, what is your definition of cultural safety? Contain your answer to one or two sentences.
Cultural safety is the caring (sincere) practice of intercultural discussion and collaboration –
for cultural permanence in the form of unique stories and their [ongoing] realisation–
represented voluntarily by inheritors of culture –
with the aim of creating oneness in a unified tapestry, or mosaic, of meaning, purpose, direction, and belonging by weaving together every culture distinctly and harmoniously.
