My third year Visual Arts Project is two-fold, meaning it will not be completed until the end of Semester One 2024. This semester I am creating the pieces of ceramics that I wish to teach others to make in workshops that will be held in 2024, along with researching materials required, finding locations and beginning to organise the paperwork, advertising and handouts that will be required for these workshops to go ahead.
Resolved Works – in the middle of the table are the pieces required for workshops to be held in 2024, 2 pinch pots, coil mug, and abstract hollow vase. Surrounding are sample test tiles, along with other pinch pots, hollow builds and coil mugs in various clay bodies.
Top to bottom; left to right. Pinch pot, approximately 350gms Walkers 10 clay; hollow built abstract vase, approximately 350gms White Raku clay; pinch pot inside; second pinch pot, 400gms Walkers 10 clay; pinch pot inside; coil built mug, approx 400gms Walkers 10. All glazed using only 3 main colours, blended to create more. All food safe.
VAP3100
In continuing from VAP3200, I have held three sets of workshops: two groups who completed a minimum of three items each; and one group who glazed a bisqued vase that I had made specifically for this purpose. The groups who made three items made a pinch pot from Walkers 10 clay body, a coil built mug from the same body, and a hollow built abstract from Walkers BRT claybody. They were given five underglaze colours to use (red, yellow, green, blue and grey) and then a final gloss glaze to create food safe dishes. The group glazing the vases were given a different set of underglazes that had a larger range of colours which created a different outcome.
These classes were a success and I have been asked by some of the students if they can do the classes again later in the year.
I also created a Frog Hotel, Bee Bath and garden ornaments with terracotta; and created a porcelain mug and cookie plate as I was experimenting with slab rolling different clay bodies as well as indenting objects into the slab rolled clay.
