Start a new blog in your online portfolio to discuss the following:

  • Watching Dylan’s acceptance speech above, what do you notice?

At the beginning of his speech, he paid respect to the First Nations people and the Prime Minister. In the middle of the speech, he expressed his gratitude to those who loved him and helped him and expressed his gratitude for his disability. He is a person who knows how to be grateful.

  • What does he say about disability?

He used to hate his disability, he hated his being different, and he was tired of his disabled life, but because of people who loved him, their love, support, and help allowed him to overcome difficulties and achieve achievements, Be a happy person. He is proud of his disability because it didn’t stop him from moving forward and becoming who he wanted to be.

  • What do you think this moment means for Australians with disability?

More funding is needed; one in five Australians has a physical or non-physical disability. The disabled community is the most disadvantaged community, and that requires more funding to give people with disabilities what they need.

People with disabilities need more employment opportunities and support; due to people’s prejudice against people with disabilities, the unemployment rate of people with disabilities in Australia is twice that of people without disabilities in 30 years. Everyone should stand up and speak out for people with disabilities to get a fair chance so that they can go out and let them live the life they want to live.
