Wellbeing and Inclusion Collaboratory Research (waiCR ) are a research group that intends to collaborate with others focused on wellbeing and inclusion, support and develop students engaged in research, and share our research. Our research goal is to contribute to a culture of excellence and world-class research with a positive social impact.
We work with educational institutions to support the promotion of wellbeing and inclusion. We are experienced. As educators, we value collaboratively engaging to optimise learning.
Our research focus streams:
1. Promoting Wellbeing and Resilience: what factors sustain a person’s wellbeing and resilience in a complex and changing world? Impacted by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity (defined VUCA).
2. Effectual Wellbeing Promotion and Workforce Retention: What promotes wellbeing and workforce retention in a complex world and studies in this area include coaching and mentoring as practices that enable wellbeing promotion.
3. Evaluating Wellbeing Promotion: Explores how do we know that what we are doing works, and are our ways of ascertaining wellbeing promotion aligned to the construct of wellbeing?
4. Collaborative Research Method: Refer to the article, Collaboratory Research Method stream involves investigations using a specific methodology (see Carter, S., Andersen, C., Stagg, A., & Gaunt, L. (2023). An exploratory study: Using adapted interactive research design and contributory research method. Journal of Academic Librarianship. 49(1). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.acalib.2022.102620 )
5. Inclusion and wellbeing: The inclusion and wellbeing stream involves research that impacts on the inclusion and wellbeing of individuals or groups in various contexts. For example, supporting teachers to deliver inclusive mathematics lessons for students with mathematics difficulties supports all students’ wellbeing and mathematical outcomes in the classroom.
6. Your Research: If you want to explore your research interests with us, please send us a message, and your query will automatically be prioritised.
Our Team
The waiCR’s research team are all educators with varied backgrounds (e.g., wellbeing promotion, principal and school leadership, inclusion, disability, mathematics and numeracy, science and nutrition. Our research is influenced by an understanding of subjective wellbeing (Diener, 2006), where wellbeing is defined as the cognitive evaluation of overall satisfaction with life, positive affect and low-level negative affect. The team consists of researchers, research students, and consultants.
waiCR’s is a research team that works collaboratively with participants and researchers. We actively coach and mentor our researchers. Our researchers and supervisors take a particular approach to doctoral supervision that ensures students and supervisors remain focused on their research projects and progress toward completing their doctoral degrees in a manner where wellbeing is promoted. This approach to research training requires intensive doctoral supervision (e.g., weekly/fortnightly meetings, whole-day one-on-one workshops at critical times during candidature, and writing retreats).
waiCR’s works with people to support the promotion of wellbeing and inclusion through discussions, professional development, and workshops.
Research Supervisors
waiCR is purposeful in promoting wellbeing and inclusion via research and research training. We are proud of our Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor of Education (EdD), and Master degree research students from various disciplines and backgrounds.
National and International Research Friends
waiCR is supported by International Research Friends. These leaders in their respective domains of research provide support and guidance to the waiCR.
