In a world moving towards automation at high speed, students must have exposure to concepts such as machine vision and machine learning as part of their STEM learning. Derek has been running the following workshops in machine vision and machine learning to give secondary students a taste of these technologies in an accessible way i.e. without having to code.

Derek has also been active in sharing his journey to agricultural research to school student at STEM conferences or National Science Week events, and was a Flying Scientist in 2020.

Patrolling the 2024 Ekka…

One of our recent outreach and engagement highlights was the UniSQ stall at the 2024 Ekka. The crowd loved interacting with our Boston Dynamics Spot Mini (robot dog), and Derek also did some radio spots at the ABC and 4BC booths.

Check out the 4BC interview here, where he spoke about the Spot Mini and how it connects to agriculture.
