Love what it loves
Mary Oliver
For much of my life I have fought an internal battle between the industrial culture I was born into and my deep connection with Country, my identity oscillating between cultural and natural. This work attempts a coming together, a melding of elements from my identity.
Icons such as gold laptops, robots and sneakers could be cultural treasures or they could be rubbish, this ambiguity sits amongst the moss and lichen of a rock from home. The large pony icon represents what I loved as a child, the play and culture of innocence, the leader of my culture. These icons all sitting on the earthy rock become somewhat of a contradiction, a clash, yet without discomfort, instead I hope for a settling, an integration, all elements working to form a stronger whole.
