Artist’s Statement

My primary mediums are charcoal and acrylic/oil paintings, I’m currently studying at the University of Southern Queensland to develop my skills and knowledge. I strive to explore ideas of taking life and energy out of my artworks as well as putting energy back into them, I feel like this is best displayed in my work “Life of Lemons” as seen below. I have also found a love for disrupting and interrupting the human face in my recent works, I am excited to combine and explore more with these concepts. I aim to connect people to my work and see how they view and perceive it. In the future, I hope to connect and collaborate with other artists who share similar ideas. The reason why charcoal is one of my primary meidiums is due to its versatility and ability to convey motion/energy, I also find the unpredictability and the gothic/Dark look of charcoal lends itself to my ideas. The first time I used charcoal, I knew I loved it, the way I can convey such emptiness with how dark and light charcoal can be.
