Meaningful Connections 2023 – 150 porcelain cups with copper green glaze

150 is Dunbar’s number – the people in your life that you can have a meaningful connection with, keep track of, or that we consider part of our ongoing social network-our tribe. I have made 150 cups to represent these relationships, as seen through the connection between the maker and the user of a cup – an intimate interaction. All 150 cups have been including, even cups with cracks or that have collapsed, representing the ‘failed’ or ‘wonky’ connections. I have used a scale of colour tone to represent differing connections and have used copper to bring a green colour to represent the other connections we have with the more than human.
